Livin' Life

I STAND CORRECTED:
Livin' Life was the Sheep and Wool ambassador for NJ and a Fair Queen, NOT a Dairy or Beef Queen. Is there really a difference?

There are a five people in my life that I find absolutely fascinating. They all have had diverse and unique experiences, jobs, and viewpoints that make them just plain interesting. Every time I think I know them they reveal something new about themselves that just throws me into a tailspin of wonder. There never seems to be an end to the layers that encompass them.

I have always hoped that one or two of them would start blogging. One is getting close but the others I really didn't think would ever happen for a number of different reasons. Well, slap me silly and call me crazy but one of the longshots just entered the blogosphere today and I couldn't be happier. And more shocked. And more thrilled.

Livin' Life...

*wears leather
*is a motorcycle riding chick
*can make a chandelier out of paperclips and egg cartons
*used to compete in sheep to shawl contests
*was homeschooled
*was a Dairy Queen, or was it a Beef Queen?
*wears camouflage
*loves God with a vengeance

Do you really need more reasons to head over and welcome Livin' Life to our mad, mad world?

(Oh, and if you can think of any other interesting tidbits about Livin' Life, leave a comment. I know I'm forgetting a ton of her mad skillzzz!)

Blog Housekeeping

For those of you who read this blog via a RSS feeder, I have a new poll up regarding Wegman's that you might want to click over and check out.

Also, in the last column you'll notice that you can now sign up for the MIA Newsletter right here! If you would like to know more about the MIA monthly meetings, special events and other news of interest, just click on the icon and give us your e-mail address. The newsletter is monthly. If you currently receive our CyberNewsletter you DO NOT need to sign up again.

Finally, I have a busy couple of weeks coming up and my posting will probably be a little sporadic. But I didn't want to leave you hanging with nothing new to chew on so I've invited several non-bloggers to make their blogging debut here. I figure they can entertain, inspire and encourage you with their stories, advice, recipes and tips. Who knows, maybe a new blogger will be born!

Chris Sligh

For all of you American Idol junkies, I somehow stumbled upon Chris Sligh's blog. I've been keeping it as my own guilty pleasure for a little while but thought it was time to share. He's on the road now with the American Idol tour, so his posting has been a little sporadic but it's always good behind-the-scene stuff when he does find the time.

If you are interested in his church background, music background and his interest in Chuck Taylor's, then I suggest you take a look around his archives.

Good stuff!

The House that Jack Built

Just when you thought it was safe to step into the blogosphere, a blog is born that is guaranteed to rock your computer. Yes, the clouds have parted and a new blogger has emerged with a fresh wit and a refreshing candor.

Our very own Say Anything has joined the ranks of mommy bloggers. For those of you who don't know Say Anything, she is a budding comedian with plenty of material that comes in the form of three kids, ages 6, 4 and 2. She has a flair for decorating, a love for tea, and a husband that is as wacky as she is. Put it all together and you will have a delightful read over at The House that Jack Built. However, she is no longer Say Anything. She is now Schtickmomma. Of course, that transformation is a story I'll let her tell.

Head on over and welcome her. Take her a cup of white tea (her favorite) and put her mind to ease. She's a little nervous about this adventure---she prefers a live audience for when she tells her stories. So make sure you laugh real loud because the more you laugh the funnier she gets. And trust me, you WILL laugh.

The "Mock 10" Signs of Blog Addiction

If you aren't a blogger, you won't get the humor of this top 10 list. But if you are a blogger, you'll be 'Amening' and nodding your head the entire time!

10. You check your blog stats a LOT. You occasionally get up in the middle of the night and sneak a peak.

9. Your significant other suspects you are having an affair with your blog. Even when you’re alone with your special person, you do find yourself thinking what your blog might be doing right then.

8. You “mental blog” while driving or on the train, and sometimes even when you are alone in the shower.

7. You filter everything through your post-writing. You can’t watch a movie, see a play, read an article, or share a sweet moment with your child without thinking of whether it’s blog-worthy.

6. You suffer from “blog envy” when another blogger posts something juicy before you do. You suffer “comment envy” when said post gets 40-something comments.

5. You “binge blog” 3 or 4 posts at once—only to feel guilty and empty afterward.

4. You ditched all your real friends for blog friends, because, well, “they understand.” You bypass Bowling Alone at the bookstore (who really cares?) while you reach for Naked Conversations.

3. You think, “I can stop at any time.”

2. Your lunch hour has become your “blog hour.” You keep a few posts tucked in your desk in case you need them during the day.

1. After 5 minutes of meeting someone really interesting you ask, “So - do you blog?”

200

On June 27, 2006, I wrote my first post on this blog. Today marks my 200th post. To help me celebrate this milestone I'm asking you to do two things:

First, check out some of my favorite posts from the last seven months. You might want to do this especially if you are new reader.

So, How Was Your Day?
Reflections
God is Good--All the Time
The Big Picture
Goodbye Mommy Jeans

Secondly, if you've never left a comment before, I'm encouraging you to do so today! Just let me know where you're from and how you found me. For you non-bloggers, simply sign in as Anonymous. It's simple and I promise it won't hurt. But it would sooooooooo make my day to know who is out there reading my mindless drivel every day.

Please, pretty please with sugar on top. I promise to write another 200 posts if you do!

I Took the Plunge

Well, for all you bloggers out there who use Blogger as your platform, you might be interested to know that I took the plunge and switched over to the new version on Blogger last night. It was very easy to do and quite painless. Looks like there are several great new features that I've been itching to have like labels for each post. I know you can't see any differences on my page, but the new Blogger really does seem easier to use, especially in making changes to your template.

So if you've been holding off in making the switch, I highly recommend you take the plunge

Get on fire with OnFire

I met my friend "OnFire" nearly seven years ago when she first attended our small group with her husband. They were young and naive but we loved them just the same for their enthusiasm and generous hearts.

It was evident, even during those early days, that they were not going to be content living a safe life. She had an insatiable love for missions and took every opportunity to support and get involved in God's work around the world. And, even with two toddlers at home, she felt called to go to Ecuador last fall to serve on a short-term missions trip. But it was her husband's trip to Louisiana later in the fall that set in motion a new chapter for their lives.

When he came back, he now knew what she had always known; their family was called to the mission field. So...the middle of this August OnFire and her husband and their two boys are moving to North Carolina to attend a missions school. Although they don't know where God will ultimately lead them, they know that this is the first step in this great adventure.

I've known for awhile that OnFire was blogging but she preferred to keep that quiet while she got her feet wet. But I've been secretly hoping that she'd allow others to join her conversation because you can't help but feel the love of Christ when you're with her. She is an excellent writer and will challenge and encourage you in your own great adventure.

I'm even more excited that we can keep our hearts and lives connected as we "check in" on each other through our blogs. Please visit her site and see for yourself. And don't stay too long or you may find yourself "on fire."

Top 10 Reasons for Writing this Blog

Welcome to the inaugural posting of this site! I'm looking forward to this adventure and hope that I can occasionally say something worthwhile. So...let me give you my Top 10 Reasons for Writing this Blog.
  1. Because motherhood can be tough.
  2. Gives me another reason to lock myself in the den--without the kids.
  3. I like to write.
  4. Women need one another, especially during this stage of life.
  5. Cheap therapy.
  6. Another avenue for getting all my words in each day.
  7. Because only other moms know what it's like to cook dinner, talk on the phone, and nurse a baby all at the same time.
  8. I want to share all my great product finds, resources, and advice that can make your life easier.
  9. I don't have enough to do with three kids.
  10. I want moms to know that none of us are perfect and we all occasionally mess up. Especially me!
