Do you have a firm foundation?

As part of MIA's meeting on April 8, Say Anything and I are suppose to take 5-7 minutes and share some fashion tips. So last night we headed to Barnes & Noble to get a plan together and over the course of 3 hours we came to an important conclusion: neither of us should be giving fashion advice.

As we read through a stack of about 10 books on the dos and don'ts of dressing for your body type, we figured that between both of our bulging tummies, wide hips, saddlebags and double-chins, we broke nearly every fashion rule on the books. However, the night was not a complete loss because we are both convinced that losing 20 pounds and buying a new wardrobe is not the answer to our fashion woes.

A good foundation is the key!

A foundation is an underlayer that either gently or firmly contours and supports the curves of your body so that clothes drape elegantly on you. Really, foundation is just a fancy term for girdles and bras. These foundation items are miracle workers for shaping the curves on every woman.

Also known as shapewear or bodyliners, they provide different levels of control, depending on your needs. Choose light for smoothing, moderate for smoothing and shaping, firm or extra-firm for smoothing, shaping and reducing.

I think extra-firm is where I should start.

Help some sisters out! The topic of fashion and looking good is really broad, so what kinds of questions or problems do you deal with in your own closet? Leave a comment and let us know...we may just pick your question to address on the 8th!!

Speaking of 'foundation' I have seriously thought of trying out some Spanx or now there apparently is another brand called Assets. They remind me of a modern day girdle so this is why I have totally hesitated. Do you know anyone that has used them? Oprah has highlighted them and apparently many of the stars wear them daily. If you do know anyone, I would ask if it's worth the $$ (meaning does it really work or does it just make matters worse) and if they are comfortable or not.

Sad part is...I'm gonna miss it!

I don't know of anyone who has personally worn Spanx (speak up if you have) but all of the books mentioned them as a must have. I'm thinking of buying a pair and trying them out over the next week so I can report. They are definitely like a modern girdle, but if they do what they claim I have no shame in wearing them.

Carly admitted to having Spanx on the other night when she sang on AI. Seems as though some members of the press thought they made her look pregnant?! I may NEVER put them on now.

As far as questions? I love to look put together, but I hate to have a lot of stuff in my closet to achieve that. How 'bout offering some tips on the "basics" that all women should have to provide lots of different looks. Like what classics create the foundation for a trendy but well-rounded wardrobe. Or some ideas on how to make what's hot now work for the various stages of a woman's life?

That being said, whatever the two of you do, PLEASE get someone to video tape and post here for us long-distancers to view. If for no other reason than the fun factor :)

What can we do with the constantly changing trends? I don't want to look 20 years behind but on smaller budgets we can't always buy the "New" Look. Do you guys have any suggestions?

I guess a second question being more artsistic I don't always go with the flow in clothes is there deffinant don'ts out there right now?

I'm pretty sure I'm on the "don't" list so I have nothing to say. :)
