Breast-Feeding Controversy

There was an interesting story on Good Morning America this week on breastfeeding in public. Apparently, "57 percent of the public are uncomfortable with public breast-feeding, according to Babytalk magazine."

Last summer, I heard a story about a woman who was breastfeeding her infant on a park bench at an area amusement park. The bench was at the back of the park and she was draped. She was approached by park security and asked to move to the nursing mother's room at the front of the park because what she was doing was "offensive to families."

Personally, I have breast-fed in malls, restaurants and even on a subway. I was always discrete and, in most cases, no one even knew what was taking place. But, listen, if the baby wants to eat you don't always have the luxary of finding a private area. Sometimes desperate crying calls for desperate measures.

Oh, and I did nurse my kid in the nursing mother's room at that amusement park one time. It was basically a closet with no air conditioning.

Any thoughts on this subject?
