The Bod Squad

I don't think there are too many who would disagree that the clothing that they make for little girls is hideous. Low cut, skimpy, ugly are just a few of the adjectives I can think off the bat.

According to a study by the APA (American Psychological Association), clothing which makes girls appear older, and the associated marketing efforts are linked to eating disorders, low self-esteem, and depression.

Author and speaker Dannah Gresh has created the Bod Squad to respond to the fashion industry. She has started a petition that she wants to deliver to industry leaders to let them know that mothers want to purchase age-appropriate clothing for our little girls and would like the fashion industry to evaluate the clothing they design and the messages they send to our daughters through advertising.

In addition to the Bod Squad, Dannah's Web site is a treasure trove of awesome resources for moms and daughters. She has books, resources, a blog, games and other fun things that engage girls about the issues that are most pressing for 8-15 year olds and gives mom the tools to address them.
