Olympics Week 1

  • *I can't believe it's only the end of week 1.
  • *I need some sleep.
  • *Michael Phelps is a machine.
  • *Can you imagine training for 12 years for anything?
  • *I want to be Darra Torres when I grow up.
  • *The new scoring system for gymnastics is stupid. I want to see a perfect "10" again.
  • *The Jamaican 100M runner broke the first rule of competition: Don't stop until you hit the tape.
  • *I pronounce it Bei-zhing.
  • *I couldn't be a marathon runner; it's not the distance, it's the running in my underwear.
  • *What constitutes a "fast" pool?
  • *I still don't think professional basketball players should be allowed to play in the Olympics.
  • *I still haven't watched the Opening Ceremonies.
  • *Mary Lou Retton hasn't changed a bit.
  • *Mark Spitz has changed a lot.
  • *Michael Phelps' mom reminds me of George Costanza's mother. But not in an annoying way.
  • *What does it cost to fly to Bei-jing?

Ooooh, ooooooh, I know the last one! Our estimated travel to Beijing is about $4700 each for our two week trip. Tickets just for a September flight are likely to come in at about $1500 each. In August, the prices skyrocketed, so I'm sure it's more right now . . . .

The opening ceremonies were absolutely amazing. I'd hate to be London and have to follow China's spectacular show.
