The Mean, Mean Mommy Fights Back

Brown Sugar often likes to tell me how much she dislikes what I'm serving for dinner. What's funny is that many times it's something she actually likes, she just forgets that fact. So I have to hear over and over why she doesn't like this and doesn't like that. It's demoralizing.

So last night she started in with her rant about how she didn't want to eat Thai peanut chicken, which is nothing more than chicken, noodles and peanuts. All things she likes. When I told her that she would indeed be eating it she called me a "mean, mean mommy."

Hmmm, those words bring up several options of recourse that we're all familiar with as parents. However, I decided to choose the road less traveled and apply some natural consequences.

So I told her that for the next two days I would not be cooking her any food. For the next six meals she was on her own. She could eat anything she wanted as long as she fixed it herself with no outside help. Well, she has so giddy about this arrangement that she upped the ante and offered to go three days instead of just two.

Deal.

So last night for dinner she had a bowl of cereal. This morning for breakfast she had Pirate's Booty. M&M's were her morning snack and vanilla pudding, cereal and more booty were for lunch.

Sounds like a kid's paradise, right? We'll see...this mean mom has a trick of two up her sleeve for dinner tonight.
