Drum Roll, Please

I have always had an interest in politics. Nothing serious enough where I'd want to seek office myself but I always thought it would be fun to work on a campaign or for a legislator. I studied political science as a minor in college and even worked briefly for two non-profits that lobbied for legislation, but I eventually took a different career path and devoted myself to organizations outside of politics. However, that didn't stop my interest in watching elections, following candidates, listening to debates and becoming a little bit of a news junkie.

I've often heard the adage, 'find out what you like to do and then find someone to pay you for doing it.' I've been lucky to have several jobs fit that criteria. Of course, now that I stay at home full time, blogging has become a huge thrill for me. And, as we all are acutely aware of, it doesn't pay.

So I've often thought about how could I get paid for blogging? What niche could I fill through blogging? In the meantime, I was also trying to find political blogs/sites that were geared toward women and helped put the issues and candidates into perspective. What few sites I did find were slanted left or right and provided more commentary than fact or just talked over my head.

I started putting two and two together. What if I started a political blog for moms? I couldn't find anything like it in the blogosphere and I thought if I did it right I may even make a little money. But then I thought about the amount of work it would take and how there are probably moms out there who are more politically savvy than I am or who can write better. I quickly talked myself out of my idea.

Apparently, though, God was privy to all those conversations in my head and had other plans. All fall he kept stirring this idea within me but I kept closing the door. Then this weekend, I watched the movie Evan Almighty and our pastor preached on "Changing the World." Just like Evan with all the animals following him, I couldn't take it anymore.

Okay, I'll do it! I give. I give.

I don't know if I'll change the world. I don't know if I'll change any minds. Heck, I don't know if I'll even make any change. I just know that God asked me to build an ark...and here it is.

Good for you woman! How great! I have a question you though....where do you find the time! Perhaps you could blog about making a 24 hour day stretch an hour or two longer. HA!

Congratulations on your new "baby!"

I thought of everything but Politics.

I'm proud that you are stepping out trying to make a differents in this world. The main thing is that you are being obedient to the Lord.

I'm cheering you on!
