Pre-Adolescent and Pre-Crazy

Sparkle has been displaying an increasing amount of adolescent angst this summer. For example, when she returned home Sunday we unveiled her newly painted bathroom. She had a meltdown at bedtime that went something like this:

Sparkle: It just doesn't feel like home. Everything is changed.

Me: Honey, all we did is paint the bathroom.

Sparkle: (through tears and wails) I know and now it feels weird here.

Me: Maybe you'll like it better when I put up the new towels.

Sparkle: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! No more changes. I can't take anymore changes. I'm never leaving the house again or you might change something else and I JUST CAN"T TAKE IT (said as she flung herself on her bed with such dramatic flair that I looked around to see if Classic Mama was directing the scene).

This exchange went on for about 15 minutes.

Those of you who have gone ahead of me, please, please tell me the hormonal crazed days of adolescence are not rearing its ugly head already. Please tell me that she's just tired or hungry but please don't tell me that this is just the tip of the teen iceberg.

'Cause if this is pre-adolescence then I'm going to be pre-crazy!

I'm sorry to tell you that it only gets more random and more unexpected.

The flip side is that you can give them more chores to do.

So, it all evens out in the end.

Hormones. Housework.
