Flying the Friendly Skies with a Toddler

Well, as you read in the previous post, we are getting ready to take a family vacation via an airplane. I am in desperate need of any and all ideas for keeping a 20-month-old boy occupied for nearly 5 hours. Sitting still for long stretches of time is not one of his strong points.

Say Anything has given me several great tips and I've been searching the Web for other suggestions. But I'd like to open the floor to those of you who have traveled by air with toddlers and get your best tips for surviving the friendly skies.

I know the number one suggestion is to feed him large amounts of Benadryl. However, I need to do a test run on that suggestion. About a year ago, he had a surgical procedure performed and they gave him Tylenol with codeine afterward. He didn't sleep for two days. So, I want to test run the Benadryl before I get on an airplane and create a monster.

So, please leave a comment and let me know how you or someone you know made the skies a kid-friendly place.

Benedryl was a BAD idea for us. Did the EXACT OPPOSITE with our son who was 16 months at the time of our trip. Portable DVD player helped us until the battery ran out...

Just took a trip to NJ with Chris (now 3)... Aqua Doodle pads (they sell them in small travel sizes) were a God send! It's water based so it doesn't make a mess.
