Five Things To Do This Weekend

It's going to be a beautiful weekend. Here are some ideas for events and activities the entire family can do together.

1. Messiah Village Fall Festival: You may have never thought of visiting a retirement home for a family festival, but this one is tops! A furniture auction (awesome deals), Zoo America, Magic Show of Mike Snyder & Donna (they are amazing), used book sale, silent auction, baked goods sale, games for kids and lots of good food are all reasons to check this event out. The highlight of the day is a quilt auction. Gorgeous quilts made by residents and other area women are auctioned off to benefit the Village. We have been going for years and it is always a much anticipated event for our family. Check the web site for directions and details.

2. National Orienteering Day at King's Gap: Using a map, a compass, and a set of clues, orienteers navigate from point to point to find a series of orange and white markers. Orienteering has even been adapted for small children and people with disabilities. This FREE event will offer beginners' instruction at 11 AM. There will be a drawing for doorprizes. Following the class, participants will be able to try one of our White (beginner), Yellow (advanced beginner), or Orange (intermediate) permanent orienteering courses. This is a really fun sport the entire family can enjoy together.

3. Harrisburg Marathon: Go to church Saturday night and then join us at the Harrisburg Marathon on Sunday morning. My husband is taking part in the half-marathon! Follow the runners, cheer them on and admire their stamina. Great way to introduce your children to this sport and to inspire yourself to follow suit.

4. York Fair. You can't beat a good fair. Grab the kids and indulge in all the standard fair treats, tour the livestock barns, check out the 4-h exhibits and, of course, ride the rides. They do have several days where they offer reduced admission rates. Check here for more information.

5. Lemoyne Hometown Day: Lemoyne will hold its 12th Hometown Day Saturday. The day begins with breakfast prepared by the area's best chefs. There is entertaiment all days, games, food, crafts and a classic car show. At 1 pm there is the Second Annual Pet Parade.

Hey, let me know if you visited any of these events and how it went!
