Works for Me...Pool Safety

Did you know that drowning is the second leading cause of unintentional injury-related death to children ages 1 to 14? I didn't until recently.

Unfortunately, I know that statistic because we've had three drownings of children in our area this summer. The first drowning was the son of a friend at church. He was 4 and drowned in a pool after accidentally falling in. The second drowning was also in a pool and the third happened after a two-year-old fell into a bucket with just a few inches of water in it.

So...please take the time to refresh yourself with water safety rules for yourself and your kids. I'm listing some Web sites that have great information: KidsHealth, American Red Cross, Safe Kids USA.

Even with kids who are very comfortable in the water or good swimmers, accidents still happen. It never hurts to remind them of the responsibility that comes with having fun in the water...and that definitely works for me!

If you want to see more great ideas, go over to Shannon's place, she is the host of WFMW and the creator of Rocks In My Dryer.

How incredibly sad.... Poor, poor kids.
A very important WFMW, thanks for reminding us to practice good water safety.

You could have save a child's life with this post..

That should have been "May" have rather than "could" have....
Darn English! :)

So scary, I'm constantly watching my little guy around pools this summer, it happens too often down here too.

It's SO tragic when that happens. Thanks for the reminder: with pools around, you just can't turn your back on the kids.

I am so sorry for the tragedy you are dealing with. What a stern reminder for us all, one I needed to hear since we have a new pool this summer.

Thanks for the reminder. I tend to focus on my little ones - but the big ones need just as much attention (1 to 14, amazing.)
