Friday Fun...Hike Anyone?

Sticks and boys. I don't know if you've experienced this but there seems to be a magnetic-like attraction between the hands of my boys and sticks. What is it about a stick that is so alluring?

I've gotten to the point where I am able to sense this stick-hand attraction and disrupt the process before the transformation from stick to sword is complete.

There is one use however that this mama allows and that could be one reason why my boys love to go on hikes. You guessed it...the stick isn't just a stick, it is a hiking stick. This important piece of equipment may help you with balance or stability while hiking...my boys just think it's really great. The best part is, the one end is in their hand and the other end is on the ground.

No trail nearby? No problem. Children have the best imaginations ever and I bet they would love to take a "hike" around the block. You could discuss the wildlife that you see - birds, worms, grass, flowers, trees, maybe mountain ranges or flat plains and any other little critter you may walk into or near. You could even pack a lunch and take it in a backpack with a blanket for the impromptu picnic that you planned well ahead of time. Have a pair of binoculars? Take them along OR tape two toilet paper rolls together and pretend they are binoculars. Add a piece of string/yarn/curling ribbon and let them hang around their necks.

Sometimes the simplest activities are the most memorable.

Oh, this brings back good memories of my older two boys going off "adventuring" in our yard before we fenced it in :) Good post!
