Friday Fun

I began reading a devotional each evening after I put the kids to bed. The book is called A Cup of Comfort Devotional for Mothers by James Stuart Bell and Jeanette Gardner Littleton. I wanted to share last night's devotion with you.

Managing a Joy-Filled Home

"Give me happiness, O Lord, for my life depends on you." Psalm 86:4

Much of life with my 8-year-old son is spent in our car, or with me as his task manager. He dutifully checks off daily chores and completes homework before running outside to play with neighborhood buddies. He rarely asks me to play tennis with him anymore or even to spend time with him.

One summer evening he asked me to walk to the park to play tennis. I readily agreed. Ten minutes into our game, he said, "Mom, you look really happy. Like a girl or something."

I laughed and told him I felt like a girl. It was good to play with him. This was the most joy-filled moment we'd had together in quite a while.

Too often I let days pass by without finding time to play with my children. I'm too busy managing their tasks and obligations. But you know the old saying, "The family that plays together stays together!"

Manage to find playful, joyous moments each day with your children.
-Heidi Shelton-Jenck

"Friday Fun" posts are going to help you do just that. We are going to remind you of fun things you can do with your children.

So today I am going to encourage you to go JUMP IN THE PUDDLES! That's right. We've been getting a lot of rain. Use it to build relationships with your children. Put on a pair of flip-flops and show your kids how it is done!

...or take your flip-flops off!

What a great and simple idea that we have had many opportunities to participate in this summer!

YOU are such a great mama!
