Livin' La Vida Loca

I saw Natalie at the YMCA a few months back when I was at the tail end of my pregnancy with # 3. I'll set the scene: She was on her way in, speed walking to gymnastics class with her youngest in her arms and the other two further ahead. I was on my way out, shouting after Abram and Reese once again for booking to the handicap button on the entrance doors. I had just spent the last 45 minutes having my eyeballs singed with chlorine in the indoor kiddie water park. We got to stop and chat for, I'd say, a nanosecond and I expressed to her my distress in feeling like I couldn't even put on my underwear in the locker room with Abram and Reese running amok. I'll never forget Natalie's words...

"Once the third one comes, you won't even care if you're wearing underwear."

Sadly, I think I've reached that point. I've always liked being made-up. Not overly done, but at least some mascara and a little something across the forehead so I don't blind people with the oil slick. But lately, it seems like more and more days are going by that I don't even open up my makeup bag. Since preschool started, sometimes I don't even bathe. Unless I wake up at 4:00 a.m., I am forced to choose between preparing a lunchbox, feeding three mouths, dressing them and getting them out the door or washing my own body. Nowadays...made-up is having the jeans that fit clean, deodorant on and my teeth brushed.

I wouldn't trade any of it...but I must admit that most days I feel like I'm living the crazy life!!!

Hey, I'm right there with ya, and I only have 2 kids. Actually, now that the youngest is 2 1/2, I do get out my makeup almost once a week! For the past 5 years, it was more like once a month.

Ha Ha Ha. I remember seeing you that day but I don't remember speaking those profound words. I think after the underwear goes amnesia sets in and you basically become numb. However, with two in school now I'm just starting to feel my toes again and, hold on a minute, yes, I have my underwear on today. It does get better.

I can totally imagine Natalie saying that!

And, she's right!

I totally understand! I do the shower thing at night now so that I do not have to worry about it in the morning - but I do miss my morning shower! That wakes me up instead of caffeine...so splashing cold water on my face in the morning has taken the place of my morning shower (except in Saturday mornig - I do take a shower in the morning then!).

I also understand about the make-up! That used to be the first thing that I did after the shower...now, I have to remind myself to do it - b/c for some reason it does help me to feel more awake and ready for my day if I have it on!

I'm commenting from China and laughing - I used to be the total "done" queen. With my youngest (until yesterday!) being 7years old, I'd gotten used to having time to do hair, make up and match my earrings to my outfit. When packing for China, I set myself on a path of simplicity with an eye toward the luggage weight limits. I've backed off to waterproof mascara and the same pair of earrings for the whole trip. I only straighten my bangs, which is pointless in this humidity, and I'm done. I figure going so minimalist now will make me feel like I'm splurging if I actually throw in eyeliner and hair product back home :)

That's so true, funny and sad at the same time. YOu can see that so many of us related. I should be getting better at it with the kids off to school but I must have gotten into a bad habit. I need professional help.

I usually manage to get some foundation and mascara on before I go to work (primarily so I don't scare anyone), but I never seem to have clothes that aren't wrinkled and I hate having to rush around and iron things!
