Dress for Success

I've been doing a massive cleaning out of my closet and found that I had several suits and business outfits that I will never fit in again. I hated to just give them to Goodwill or Salvation Army, but really wanted them to go somewhere where they were needed. So I found an organization called Dress for Success

Dress for Success provides disadvantaged women with professional attire and career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life. Founded in New York City in 1997, Dress for Success is an international not-for-profit organization offering services designed to help their clients find a job and remain employed.

Each Dress for Success client receives one suit when she has a job interview and can return for a second suit or separates when she finds work. Since 1997, Dress for Success has served almost 400,000 women around the world.

And here's the great part. In Central Pennsylvania, you can drop off your clothing at any of the nine Classic Dry Cleaners locations and they will dry clean your clothes for free before they hand them over to Dress for Success. You will receive a donation form for your taxes when you drop off the clothes.

Here's a list of the items they need:

Suits: Skirt or pant (conservative and current style)
Separates: Skirts, pants, jackets/ blazers (dark colors)
Blouses: Conservative, crisp white blouses needed
Shoes: Dress, Dark (black, brown, navy, taupe)
Handbags: Dark (black, brown, navy)
Suit Jackets: Dark Colors (no patterns)
Scarves
(New in package) Pantyhose only in black, coffee, nude, navy (no white or bold colors, need plus and queen sizes)
Conservative jewelry (pearls, chains, pins, etc.)

It's that easy! So the next time you think about getting rid of those business suits, shoes or accessories, think of Dress for Success.

Great idea! I was actually just trying to remember the name of this organization the other day with a friend who had a need. Thanks for the post!
