Works-for-me-Wednesday: Birthday Edition

Today is a special edition of WFMW...it's the Birthday Edition where we share our best ideas for making memorable birthdays. Ironically, my Brown Sugar turned 5-years-old today so this subject is very apropos.

I don't remember who gave me this idea a few years ago, but the kids go crazy over it every time. The night before the birthday, when the kids are sleeping, we go into the birthday kid's room and decorate it with balloons, streamers and signs. We go nuts with the streamers and make it virtually impossible for them to get out of bed without stepping on or through something. Usually they want to "preserve" the madness so they can revel in their birthday glory for a few weeks.

It's cheap, easy and creates a great tradition that they look forward waking up to on their birthday morning!!

Hey, I like that idea. I was just talking to my bff about making the kids' birthday day special. We always have the b-day party on the weekend so everyone can come, but the day itself should be special too. Did you ever have trouble with them waking during the night and seeing it?

I found your site through the 5 minutes for Mom site. I was scrolling down the comments and saw my name there. :)

I like this idea, too, and we have a birthday coming up in two weeks. Trouble is, I don't know if I could get my boys to clean their room and have it stay clean long enough that they'd be able to see all the streamers and balloons...But it's worth a try!

I love this idea!

It reminds me of how my mother always decorated my room at Christmastime. I had my own small tree and she'd hang lights around my dresser mirror and bed canopy. It wasn't a surprise but I loved falling asleep at night with the twinkling lights - so magical!

So I absolutely love and plan to take your suggestion, when my little one is old enough.

Thanks!

I love that idea. I'm going to write that down so I will remember it for my son's birthday in July. :o)
