Works-for-me-Wednesday: Travel Tip

We just returned from a long weekend at the beach that reminded me of a great tip. A few years ago our family stayed in a motel that didn't meet our normal standards for cleanliness. I was grossed out from the minute we walked into what was to be our home for the next week. My sister-in-law was staying in the room next to us and experiencing the same level of "gross."

To save the day, she shared a tip that she had been using for a while when they traveled. She suggested we all go buy Febreze & disinfectant/cleaning wipes and clean the room more to our standards. I jumped on the idea and spent the next hour or so spraying, wiping, and scrubbing. It made a huge difference and was a minor investment for a week of sanity.

Now, I always travel with disinfectant/cleaning wipes. After seeing one too many news stories on the germs that lurk in hotel rooms, restaurants and bathrooms, I'm more than happy to clean a little so I can relax more.

And that works for me. For more tips, visit Shannon at Rocks in my Dryer.

I hear ya! I can't stand to stay in a dirty hotel room or rental house! It's a great idea to carry
wipes along with you!

Having a spouse who works in the hospitality industry, I am horrified to hear that you actually cleaned your hotel room!

Why not just ask the front desk to call housekeeping and take care of it?

Holly,

If you could've seen this motel and all the other problems I didn't mention, you would understand why just cleaning it myself was the best solution. Unfortunately, we were staying in an area with very limited choices for accommodations. This place seemed like the lesser of the evils.

Most hotels do a good job of keeping the place clean, but occasionally I stay at one that is missing the mark. It never hurts to be prepared.
